  • Playing on the Green Chess Server

As of October 14, 2022, there are two sites where you can play Trice's Chess but both of them still refer to it as its older name. You can play a very fast game with a timer byclicking here to go to the chess.com website or you can play at a more leisurely rate, taking more than a day to think of a move if you would like, on the GreenChess.net website.

Below are the step-by-step instructions for registering a new name to play on the turn-based site known as GreenChess.net The term turn-based means you can make moves one at a time, without both players being present at the same time. You may also take more than one day to think of a move when you get into a tough position. This is a recommended way to play if you are new to the game.

THIS IS A FREE PLAYING SITE but you must login using an email address.

    STEP 1. Go to GreenChess.net

You will see a page like the one shown below.

STEP 2. Click on the Sign up link shown above in yellow text.

You will see a page like the one shown below.

STEP 3. Enter your email address, making sure you enter it into the correct field. E-mail address: (?) towards the middle of the screen is where you enter it when signing up. The other field with the same name is for when you sign in later.
STEP 4. Pick a password you will remember. You will have to enter it twice as shown in the Password (twice): (?) area.
STEP 5. Pick a name for yourself. This is the name everyone will see when you are online. This name goes into the Player name: (?) field as shown.
STEP 6. Click the checkbox so a blue checkmark appears next to Anyone can invite: (?) as shown above. This is strongly recommended so that the other players on the site can invite you to play a game. You will get a game going much more quickly this way. Of course, you can also do the inviting.
STEP 7. Click the checkbox so a blue checkmark appears next to I accept the Site rules, including: area, as shown above. Notice the terms listed below must be adhered to, particularly no asking for help, no sharing your account, and "play nice," etc.
STEP 8. There is a How did you hear about us? (?) area which has a pre-populated menu just to its right. Please select the someone suggested item, as shown.
STEP 9. Where it asks Who? type my name, Ed Trice. It will appear in all capital letters, such as ED TRICE as shown. Don't worry about the upper case letters that appear. It's not you, it's the way the field is configured on the website.
STEP 10. Click the Sign up button, with the light green text and green background. An email will arrive in a few minutes, with an "activation link" to click. Once you click it, you are verified to play on the site.
STEP 11. How to find a game The site layout is a little confusing, so I put together another set of steps how you can find a game, or create a game invitation to send to someone. Click on the link below.
